I was driving on 97, about a mile north of Kent, Oregon, and I looked to the east and spotted this herd of elk running parallel to the highway, a few hundred yards or so away. Needless to say, I pulled over immediately and grabbed my camera. I barely had time to put my 75-300mm on and flip the Burst Mode switch. I only noticed later that my ISO and aperture were still set for some shady conditions I had just shot in. My adrenaline was running so high that I didn’t check those little details! Unfortunately, this is about the best shot of the bunch. I’m guessing there were 50-60 in this herd, and you can see there are a few bulls in there.

I took a detour today and wound up at White River Falls in North Central Oregon. I had been there last spring, so it was good to get back here with different colors, lighting, etc… Probably the biggest change this time around was that the volume of water going over the falls was significantly less than the first time I was there. The long exposure shots always seem to be popular, so here it is. I also got some faster shutter times as well.

Not to post the same thing twice, but this one is going on my 24″ monitor at work. If you’re in the area, drop by my office at school and see how it looks in that size at that resolution. I’ll make this available for download on my photoblog if you’re interested.

I can’t keep up.  He just keeps growing and looking more like a young man all the time.

Don’t believe me?  Check these out!

I love my new job as a middle school dean of students and athletic director, but I sure haven’t had the time to shoot lately. I’ve been going to a lot of kids’ ball games lately. At one of our recent home football games, things were running pretty smoothly, so I broke out the 75-300mm zoom lens so I could see what kind of action I could capture. I’ll see if the yearbook committee is interested in this shot.
