A more close-up shot of the front porch.
I’ve known this house to be empty for at least 15 years, and it’s probably empty for longer than that. It’s amazing that it’s still standing; the holes in that roof have to be creating some big time rot inside.
Another shot that should have been taken at a different time of day, and it could probably benefit from some HDR treatment as well. It’s not far from the school. A late afternoon shot would probably work a lot better. With the sun behind me, I could get more even lighting and take advantage of the blue sky behind it.
An abandoned school near Helix, Oregon. Well, abandoned for it’s original purpose, anyway. Looks like a farmer is using it for some storage. That’s a wheat combine header parked in front, to the right. I’m unsure of when this building last held classes.
This would have been a good time to do some HDR. The bright morning sun coming from the right side blew out the highlights on that east facing side, and caused some fairly dark shadows just under the eaves. For that reason, I almost didn’t post this. It’s bugging me just enough that I may go back this week and try it again!
