A late-winter shot set against the Columbia River.  The colors you see in the background are, from top to bottom, sky, cliffs on the Washington side of the river, and the river itself.  A pretty simple shot, but I liked how it suggests standing tall through the toughest of times.

Thank goodness for burst mode.  This bird was perched on a fence, then decided to take off when I got closer to him.  I just kept walking, kept him zeroed in in my viewfinder, and left the shutter trigger down the whole time.  This was one of the resulting shots.  I cropped judiciously and used a slight duotone coloring effect.

These seem to be cropping up everywhere around here.  I took a trip out to Wallula, the point at which the Columbia River turns right and heads toward the Pacific, and I got several shots of these monsters.  Although the closest one looks like it’s leaning here, that’s just an effect of lens distortion.  Cropped and colored with a duotone in GIMP, the color of which I’ve forgotten now.  This is my favorite shot to date.
